Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moravosilesian Palaeozoic, Devonian and Lower Carboniferous. Extremely interestng geological and archeological locality called Býčí skála (the Bull´s Rock). Deeply cut karst valley exposes basement granitoids of the Brno Massif and overlying basal Devonian Josefov and Lažánky limestones. Locally, in karst depressions, Lower Cretaceous Rudice beds occur. Devonian limestones are fossiliferous, with abundant stromatoporoids, corals and brachiopods. On adjacent plains many superficial karst features occur, such as karren fields and sink holes. Karst cave became famous by its archeological phenomena. National Nature Reserve in the Protected Landscape Area protects also vegetation with its beech woodland, oak woodland and rare calciphile flowers.
